The above link is to a petition on the Change.org website; I have set up this petition for adults with autism. I set it up in the recognition that all children with diagnosed autism spectrum disorders will age out of their school systems and therefore, out of the services that, if fortunate, they received during their growing-up years. I also set up this petition for older adults who grew up with a mix of differences that leave lifelong emotional scars and can very likely be explained by the presence of an ASD in these individuals. These adults need access to both diagnostic and often, to support services once diagnosed.
Support services, made available to adults with suspected or diagnosed ASDs, may initially cost taxpayers $$$, but would pay off in the long run. For one, adults with autism are the most unemployed people group, and even among others with disabilities. These services would empower people with autism to become taxpayers, whether through outside employment or through operating their own businesses. These services would also create many new jobs for typical people, including entry-level jobs. And it can ease many mental health problems, homelessness, divorces and crimes, that are caused when people have unmet needs. All this will benefit all of us.
If you sign, your address will not be made public; it is requested to verify your identity. You can keep your name private through unchecking the "Display My Name Privately" box there. If you are outside the US, you can still help by finding my "Caring Enough to Make A Difference" Facebook page or my "On Life, Love And Truth" facebook page. On these pages, my petition is reposted regularly and this makes it easy to find AND to share. You can see both these pages pictured as badges on my blogspot and linked here. My petition goal is 1,000,000 signatures and, by the time I have to get all these signatures delivered, I would hope that the current budget wars will be resolved.
