THE HEIST by Chris Durso

This is an inspirational, why-to book. Chris Durso is the author of this book. He founded the church, MISFIT NYC, which he serves. It consists of millennials in New York. Durso is co-pastor of Christ Tabernacle church in Queens. Erwin Raphael McManous wrote the Foreward for this book. Durso starts his book with an Introduction. He spreads his content across ten chapters. Then he finishes with Acknowledgments. A separate page, with a quote, introduces each chapter.

This book was encouraging and solidly Christian, as I expected. The overwhelming stress is on God's grace and love. And then the author weaves in the fact that we are thoroughly undeserving of Divine love and grace. He often addresses the sin issue, but only as the backdrop of the expression of God's love and grace. It was near the end of his book that the author mentions his childhood struggles with ADHD and related disabilities. I would have liked for him to say much more about this, instead of include it as an afterthought, close to the end of his book (pp 188-190). For the Christian community doesn't do enough to address disabilities, especially the "invisible disabilities" such as the author briefly mentioned that he dealt with in his childhood. And then he talks like after he surrendered to God, that he didn't struggle with disability-related baggage. Though his strong stress on God's love and grace are so comforting, he omits any mention of God's wrath at and hatred of sin. I understand this, but the Bible stresses God's holiness and justice as much as it does His love and grace.
I recommend this book for any Christian and non-Christian. The one exception are those who are in an unrepentant state. Those who are loving and enjoying their lifestyles. This book is mostly for all those who are contrite and who want to be right with God. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Blogging for Books.
The copy I received was an Advance Review Copy, and is not yet in its final form. The book is set to be released in its final form on July 11, 2017.
