The Greatest Gift You Can Give

It is safe to say that you may own a copy of one book, even if you don't read it. I understand that the average family owns at least one copy of this book; many have more than one copy of this book. It is available if different translations. Editions of this book can be found for women. Editions exist for children, editions exist for teens and editions exist for men. You can even find editions for those in recovery from addictions or who have survived or have a special passion for breast cancer. I have heard it said, "This is the all time best-selling yet least read book."

I'm talking about Scriptures. The Bible.

We have an overabundance of copies of Bibles. You may keep copies of this book around even if you use it only to hold mementos in. I know that some people collect translations of the Scriptures. However, around the world, things are not this way. This holds true especially in countries that are unfriendly to religious freedom. In Muslim countries, only copies of the Koran are permitted and Bibles are banned. In many countries, copies of the Bible are unavailable because Christian printing presses are understaffed or underfunded. In many cases, the Bible may not be available in many languages and some people have no access to Scriptures in their own language. We may take our abundance of Bibles for granted, but in many countries, owning a Bible of one's own is a dream for many people. In China, the number of Christians outnumbers the number of available copies of Scriptures at any certain time. The truth is, in the West and especially in the US, we have wealth that others can only dream about and pray for.

I have begun a new fund-raising campaign on the website for a nonprofit called Gospel for Asia. This nonprofit does many things that address the material needs of very needy people in Asia. They feed, clothe, shelter and educate children. They develop communities. They provide disaster relief of various kinds. They also address the spiritual needs of people and they tell those they serve about God, His truth and His love and in particular, about the Person of Jesus. My fund-raising campaign raises money to bring Bibles to Asia. It costs only $3 to print a copy of the Scriptures. This nonprofit derives their funds for their overhead from a separate fund of their own, so 100 percent of money given to this campaign would go directly to print Bibles and take them to the people. You can give online. At the webpage for a link I will give you is their physical address, where you can send them a check. If you cannot give at this time, just share this post with others! Thank you.
