THE RESCUE, by Jim Cymbala

This book is a set of profiles about seven people. They are true stories. It is a small book. The front cover pictures a drowning man and what looks like light above him. The author begins with an Introduction. Then he follows up with seven chapters of the bulk of his content. He finishes with a Conclusion. Jim Cymbala is pastor of a Church called Brooklyn Tabernacle. He has been pastor of this congregation for almost 40 years. He has written best-selling books. These include SPIRIT RISING and FRESH WIND FRESH FIRE. Ann Spangler has co-written this book. She is an award-wrinning author. She has written many best-selling books. These include PRAYING THE NAMES OF GOD and WOMEN OF THE BIBLE.

This is a small book and fast reading. It was what I expected it to be. each of the 7 profiled individuals ended up in low points in their lives, at the point of desperation and hopelessness, end at one point ending up "down and out." In every case, however and predictably, every profiled person has a dramatic conversion and wonderful experience with the Person of Christ which transforms their lives. Some have been able to lead their entire families to the Person of Christ. It is meant to encourage us to believe that no matter what choices we make or what has been done to us, that that if you surrender to the Person of Christ, God can transform it into good for self and others. Unfortunately, often we have to reach rock-bottom, like the profiled individuals, to embrace the commitment and terms of surrender. While being saved is free, discipleship and surrender cost us everything.

I recommend This book for anyone. I recommend it especially for non-Christians, lapsed Christians, and to anyone who wants to break free from a troubled lifestyle. I also recommend this book for those who want to know how best to help such people.

I received a complimentary of this book in exchange for my honest review of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review of this book.
