SURVIVING DEATH by Leslie Kean

This book is a work of investigative journalism. Kean begins this book with an Introduction about the purpose of this book. She spreads her content in four parts over 26 chapters. Contributing authors have written a number of the chapters. Then she ends her content with a Conclusion. She provides Notes for each chapter, citing the sources she used for each chapter. Then she give Acknowledgements for all those who made this book possible. Then she indexes the book. About halfway in this book, Kean inserts colored photos of people included in her investigation. She also includes more farther in the book. Leslie Kean is the NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of UFOS: GENERALS, PILOTS, AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS GO ON THE RECORD. An investigative reporter, Kean has been published widely in dozens of newspapers and magazines in the U.S., and worldwide. These include BOSTON GLOBE, THE NATION, the GLOBE AND MAIL, and the INTERNATIONAL HERALD. She currently contributes articles to the HUFFINGTON POST. She's also the author of BURMA'S REVOLUTION OF THE SPIRIT.

This book was not what I expected! I was counting on receiving a book about case studies about people with "out of body experiences." Those who actually died, shipped into eternity, had supernatural experiences, and then returned to earth. What I read included of this. But always in the context of psychic phenomena. Instead, I just got done reading a book about paranormal psychology, mediums, and psychic phenomena. A number of her chapters are authored by mediums or those with degrees in paranormal psychology, including Julie Beischel, PhD, and Loyd Auerbach, MS. Now I'm NOT one of those who denies that these kind of experiences don't happen. I can understand how people can turn to such things to get answers for life's major problems. Once, my family had me hypnotized to see what was going on with me. With no results. In the world of the missing, desperate families may turn to mediums. I have never heard of a medium bringing a missing person home. Most of all, as a follower of Jesus, I believe these phenomena all have ties to the occult and to the person of satan. And when we allow such things in our lives, we open the door for satan to oppress, torment, and attack us.

Sadly, I can't recommend this book. Not in a good conscience. It promotes reincarnation, astral projection, seances, and other anti-God practices. I know that turning to psychic phenomena can mean instant gratification. It promises to give answers to life's complex problems. Turning to God for guidance often means more work and delayed gratification. We're told to work hard to seek it. I must give credit to this author for thorough research and sourcing. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Blogging For Books, in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to give a positive review of this book. More Info
